LONG TIME NO POST!
We have been really busy recently since we just finished our exams and have literally been bombarded with lessons. But it is all good cause by the end of it we knew that we could update our blog more frequently than we are at the moment. So here is to a new beginning to more regular posts.I hope.
Well for this week we are bringing back one of our favourite type of blog posts that is book bucket lists! We enjoy doing these so much since we really like sharing books that have been cluttering up in our brains since FOREVER but that we have never got about to read.So instead of feeling guilty about that we make lists to help clear our wild thoughts. And this actually our second time doing this and I am proud to say that i have read the majority of books that were published in my first edition.
So here are the top 5 books that I REALLY, REALLY want to read.
5. THE LAST GOOD DAY OF THE YEAR- JESSICA WARMAN.
I have been recently trying to get into horror/thriller/suspence- esque genre recently. And i was trying to find a new horror novel that was still fresh and still pretty underrated and when I stumbled upon this I was in book heaven. This is what the summary says…
Ten years ago, in the early hours of New Year’s Day, seven-year-old Samantha and her next door neighbor, Remy, watched as a man broke into Sam’s home and took her younger sister, Turtle, from her sleeping bag. Remy and Sam, too afraid to intervene at the time, later identified the man as Sam’s sister Gretchen’s much older ex-boyfriend, Steven, who was sent to prison for Turtle’s murder.
Now, Sam’s shattered family is returning to her childhood home in an effort to heal. As long-buried memories begin to surface, Sam wonders if she and Remy accurately registered everything they saw. The more they re-examine the events of that fateful night, the more questions they discover about what really happened to Turtle.
The idea seemed really fresh and simple yet I can feel that it won’t leave me bored like some thriller novels tend to. So really excited to try something new and different. Hopefully I wouldn’t be left disappointed.
4. ALIVE- SCOTT SIGLER.
I HAD to include a sci fi book in here seeing how much I enjoyed the previous sci fi book I read. And this seemed perfect. The world in which the characters are living in so daunting and thrilling and exciting.I want to unfold this mysterious, compelling novel as soon as possible. The summary says…
A young woman awakes trapped in an enclosed space. She has no idea who she is or how she got there. With only her instincts to guide her, she escapes her own confinement—and finds she’s not alone. She frees the others in the room and leads them into a corridor filled with the remains of a war long past. The farther these survivors travel, the worse are the horrors they confront. And as they slowly come to understand what this prison is, they realize that the worst and strangest possibilities they could have imagined don’t even come close to the truth
3. THE OCEAN AT THE END OF THE LANE- NEIL GAIMAN.
I KNOW I’M REALLY LATE!!! And this is one of the most popular horror/thriller books and it would be an injustice to leave it off my list. I think it is definitely a must read for people who are interested in this genre. The summary says….
Sussex, England. A middle-aged man returns to his childhood home to attend a funeral. Although the house he lived in is long gone, he is drawn to the farm at the end of the road, where, when he was seven, he encountered a most remarkable girl, Lettie Hempstock, and her mother and grandmother. He hasn’t thought of Lettie in decades, and yet as he sits by the pond (a pond that she’d claimed was an ocean) behind the ramshackle old farmhouse, the unremembered past comes flooding back. And it is a past too strange, too frightening, too dangerous to have happened to anyone, let alone a small boy.
Forty years earlier, a man committed suicide in a stolen car at this farm at the end of the road. Like a fuse on a firework, his death lit a touchpaper and resonated in unimaginable ways. The darkness was unleashed, something scary and thoroughly incomprehensible to a little boy. And Lettie—magical, comforting, wise beyond her years—promised to protect him, no matter what.
2.EVERY LAST WORD-TAMARA IRELAND STONE.
So getting to the contemporary section, this is the contemporary that I am excited about cause the idea appealed to me in many ways. The concept of mental illness being slowly folded into poetry sounds fascinating and in a way whimsical. If the author could really capture this, I think it could be an incredible read. The summary says….
Samantha McAllister looks just like the rest of the popular girls in her junior class. But hidden beneath the straightened hair and expertly applied makeup is a secret that her friends would never understand: Sam has Purely-Obsessional OCD and is consumed by a stream of dark thoughts and worries that she can’t turn off.
Second-guessing every move, thought, and word makes daily life a struggle, and it doesn’t help that her lifelong friends will turn toxic at the first sign of a wrong outfit, wrong lunch, or wrong crush. Yet Sam knows she’d be truly crazy to leave the protection of the most popular girls in school. So when Sam meets Caroline, she has to keep her new friend with a refreshing sense of humor and no style a secret, right up there with Sam’s weekly visits to her psychiatrist.
Caroline introduces Sam to Poet’s Corner, a hidden room and a tight-knit group of misfits who have been ignored by the school at large. Sam is drawn to them immediately, especially a guitar-playing guy with a talent for verse, and starts to discover a whole new side of herself. Slowly, she begins to feel more “normal” than she ever has as part of the popular crowd . . . until she finds a new reason to question her sanity and all she holds dear.
